Meet speaker: Prof. Dr Horst-Christian Langowski

Prof. Langowski (b. 1954) conducts research into packaging technology for food, technical and pharmaceutical products, special-purpose plastics and their interactions with packaged products. He also examines how information technology can be used for the safe operation of bottling plants. Following his physics studies, Prof. Langowski went to work in industry in 1981 (developing optical data storage media). He combined work with study and obtained his doctorate in 1989 at the University of Hanover. In 1991, he joined what is now the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging. He now acts as the Institute’s Director on a part-time basis. In 2003, he was offered the Chair of Food Packaging Technology at the Technische Universität München (Technical University of Munich) and since 2006 he has been Dean of Studies for Brewing and Food Technology. He is a member of the board of directors of the Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan, the executive committee of the European Metallizers Association and the VDI Society for Plastic Technologies’ expert committee on extrusion technology. He is also on the board of the Centre for Food and Packaging Technology (ZLV).
